Some Good News For Workshops Around the State
In case you missed it, a recent report by DESE Workshop Division Director Dan Gier highlighted several positive developments at some of Missouri’s workshops:
• Gateway Industries (Eldon) has been awarded a Department of Economic Development grant to become a PPE (Face Shield) supplier. This Grant allowed purchased two laser cutting systems (plastic shield) and a building a 50 by 70-foot building expansion.
• Alphapointe has added Rightfully Sewn to its business units along with also being awarded a Department of Economic Development Grant ($263,000.00) to expand the Rightfully Sewn face mask business along with its medical scrubs business.
• VIP of Cape Girardeau has completed its warehouse and production expansion of 55,000 sq. ft. at its main location in Cape Girardeau.
• The workshop cohort-enclave from Southeast, Blue Valley and JobOne that has been working on the COVID-19 test kits has been receiving praise here in Jefferson City at multiple levels.
• State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick has been in several shops had been extremely impressed by the work being done.
• Crowder of Neosho has been added as a preferred supplier of Moving Box’s for the Source America Contract this project has an estimated value of 1.9 million per FY.
• CMSE of Columbia has been working with the Engineering Department of MU on a quick-to-assemble and dispatch face shield. There could be a great opportunity for workshop cooperation with cutting and assembly.
